What to expect at your first physio appointment
Your first session is normally around 60 minutes. It covers:
-
What happened, what makes it better or worse, and what you want to get back to.
-
Movement, strength and joint testing to work out what's driving the problem.
-
What we think is going on, in plain English, and a realistic timeframe.
-
Hands-on care where appropriate, which may include soft tissue work, joint mobilisation or dry needling.
-
A few targeted exercises you'll actually do, how to better manage it outside of the clinic, and when to come back
Wear something you can move in. Bring any scans, reports or referral letters you have.
Meet Timon, physiotherapist and chiropractor
Timon is a physiotherapist and chiropractor, registered with AHPRA in both professions. He completed a Bachelor of Chiropractic Science and a Master of Chiropractic at Macquarie University, then returned to Macquarie to complete a Doctor of Physiotherapy.
Before adding physiotherapy to his training, Timon spent three years working as a chiropractor across the Northern Beaches and North Shore. Training in both professions gives him a broad set of assessment and treatment tools, so he can choose the approach that suits the person in front of him.
Timon has a particular interest in persistent pain: back, neck and joint pain that has hung around longer than expected. He has completed further training in this area, including GLA:D Back and courses with pain educator Ben Cormack. His approach combines a clear explanation of what's going on, hands-on care where it helps, and a graded plan to rebuild confidence and capacity.
Outside the clinic, Timon is a keen surfer, and you'll often find him in the gym or on the golf course. He enjoys working with casual athletes and everyday people who want to keep doing the things they love.
Physio or chiro: which should I book?
It matters less than you might think. Physios and chiropractors are both university-trained and AHPRA-registered, and both assess and treat muscle, joint and movement problems. For most back, neck and joint complaints, research doesn't show one profession consistently outperforming the other. The quality of the assessment and the rehab plan matters more than the title.
At Movement, the approach is the same whoever you see: assessment first, hands-on care where it helps, and exercise-led rehab. If one of us thinks the other is a better fit for you, we'll say so. Book whichever time suits you.
